I've always regretted selling gear that didn't have any flaws.
Yeah, I think I may regret lettting the Soldano go. It is a killer sounding amp. One of the best I've owned.
I wouldn't sell the HR25 if you love it, especially having not played a Helios yourself. Take a deep breath and wait for an opportunity to try a Helios. They will be around....
Got to play one at the amp show. Perfect size, weight, and volume. I want one.
Hell no. I love my HR 25. It's a phenomenally good amp.
I've played a Helios a bunch of times and have owned an slo. Slo has it beat by a mile for me so if the hr25 is close to the slo tonally I would go for that in a heartbeat. I've seen some people prefer the hr25 to a real slo too which is wild. I plan on picking up a hr25 someday
They are killer amps. I think you would really like the HR 25.
Maybe if I do some patient searching I can find a used Helios for sale locally and try it out in the future. For right now I guess I'm going to try to control the GAS, if I can.
I'll take the Helios any day of the week! Love that amp!
I would castrate myself, sans anesthesia, for a Helios.
Helios is a very cool amp. Sounded like a brighter, scratchier version of my old JMP 2203.
Soldanos are thicker and growlier in the low end than a regular Marshall. More of a dense wall of sound.
What sound are you after?
I have to admit I love the thick growl of the Soldano. The Helios does seem like a killer amp though also from all the clips I have heard. I will eventually try or buy one.
Soldano HR25 is for sale on the Walmart site! WALMART! Wuuuuuuut? Bogner pedals, too!
Yeah, for some reason Walmart.com advertises stuff for other sites. Look at the actual seller and it's not really Walmart that is selling the product but a dealer.
I LOVED my HR25
Great, great amp..
I do prefer my PWE EH2 50 though as I think it is a warmer amp that can sing like an SLO
GET THE BOGNER!!!
Hopefully I'll get a chance to test one out soon. Not sure the Soldano will be leaving though regardless.
It is a great amp!!
I own a Hot Rod 25 and a Helios 50. I love both, but if I had to choose one, the Helios. The Hot Rod 25 is a magnificent amp, but it's not real versatile. The distortion is a bit hard around the edges, and it has that flat attack of 5881's without any sponge. I'm just not a fan of 5881's in most amps though the HR25 is kind of an exception. The Helios lead tone is absolutely heavenly, and it has the most incredible feel. It's full of harmonic, 3D character with that signature Bogner warmth and a bit of his signature low mids. The Helios on the high input is similar to the normal/gain channels of the HR25 in that there are no real clean tones. The Helios on low input doesn't have great cleans until you get the volume up a bit. If you can hear your normal TV volume over the Helios, then it's not loud enough for the cleans to start blooming. If you can get a bit of volume, the cleans come out spectacular. I'd say the Helios is better at low volume. The HR25 power tube distortion doesn't come into play until it's fairly loud, so you're not going to get that magical SLO type vibe at night time. The HR25 excels at brootz. The Helios is a bit too organic to sound hardcore, but a good player can probably coax the brootz out of it. People say the Helios is a bright amp, but I disagree. It's present, but I had a JVM up until recently and it was bright in comparison. Bogner has a way of imparting amazing warmth in his amps, and the bright Marshall character of the Helios is complimented by the warm midrange. The HR25 is a bright amp, but the mids stand fantastically. Both great amps.
