I was lucky enough to buy an XRAY amp from a very reluctant seller (serial number 1, by the way).

I'm still in shock. :D
Decay-o-caster and Shades told me that this amp is very special, but, oh my. How can a "tweed amp" have such depth and chime and complexity and sustain.................clean!!?? I kept checking to be sure I didn't have my reverb in service! I really didn't want to push the amp because it sounded so amazing clean.

And the bottom is huge.....................BUT tight and lively. In fact, every note you hit is vibrant and lively.

I'm at a loss for words. I'm hoping I can get Shades by here sometime so we would have a real musician to makes some clips.

I've never posted about an amp before, and I've got some pretty good ones sitting around here. My son already has his request in for an XRAY from Adam's next run. If anybody is interested, there are three slots left. 1650, upfront. If you can somehow get your hands on one to play, the decision will be an easy one.

    I am a happy guy.

I must now sell one from the stable to make room on the "head table"; only so many places at the table. I've just got to figure out which one.

Adam, if you read this, many thanks, man. Whatever magic you're working, keep it going.

    doc,
I believe there is some heavy duty codependancy going on here. But....................... I ain't complaining when the advice leads me to things like this amp.

I changed out the tube in the PI slot to a 12AU7 tonight, then gave it another turn. It only gets better. :dude

I just wish there were more out there for people to try. It is very frustrating trying to describe this amp. You think tweed, you think certain things automatically. But nooooooooooooooo. Way more.

So, gloat away, doc. I'm loving it. :p

I dunno - could you even lift it over your head?? :p

No, the Stark gets buried with me. Not sure how I'll fit the cab into the coffin, but I'm sure I'll work it out somehow. I'm thinking it'll have to only be a 1-12...

I have been interested in these amps for awhile. I really don't own a tweed style amp except for my Tone King Meteor II and after the Michigan Tonefest I don't feel the overdrive on the Meteor is a really authentic tweed type tone. I love it regardless but it would be cool to have a tweed style amp for the Rolling Stones and ZZ Top type tones. How much are these amps?

    Chuck,

Check the Stark Sex Amp on the Emporium. 4-6V6 instead of the X-Ray's 2. I know that you like volume and headroom. It's a head, but you have plenty of cabs. I would jump on it, but I can't justify that kind of money right now.

The X ray is a Killer. I'd like to pick one up myself. I've talked to Adam about possibly commissioning a small run of amps especially for us. As soon as I pool the rest of my resources together I'm going to get that happening.
