Seeing that about Louie Shelton reminds me of this one with the late great Larry Knechtel.
If acts like Dr. John and The Brothers Johnson are considered Yacht Rock, it's a truly meaningless descriptor.
Great song writing and arranging. Great memories. My daughter loved Diamond Girl, and she's a youngster.
"Summer Breeze" was also a great song and some great guitar playing.
Somebody probably already said it, but that's Joe Walsh on guitar.
Pure Walsh. Can't imagine he liked the song though!
Just because I really appreciate Annie Bertucci (and yes that's Melanie Chartoff on the left):
I'll add another one from Christopher Cross
LRB is great
Cut from the same cloth as CSN
Yeah, I didn't even know that long version of Long Way There existed until about 14 years ago, when I happened to hear it while listening to some streaming content on WinAmp. Never had the first album until then.
Really nice guitar work by Ric Formosa on that.
I've seen and heard where the Eagles really dug them as well, esp. Glen Frey.
If you google out, you'll see some live stuff of him doin' some tunes with the LRB.
Cool. I even thought some of LRB's work might have been inspired by the Eagles....or the other way around, if you will.
Doobie Brothers for me. And speaking of which, I can't help but share this little piece of great guitar playing: Guitar-only version of Listen to the music. Enjoy.
We called it Granola Rock.
I had the great fortune of seeing them in Savannah along the river in 2005.
They opened with Nice Nice, Very Nice.....which was a ballsy move.
Had to correct some nearby 20 somethings before they embarrassed themselves, in hollering out for them to play Baby Come Back
The whole situation was prefaced by me being there waiting to play a gig on guitar at a nearby bar later.
BUT, meanwhile, unbeknownst to me, our esteemed front guy and a sometime lady guest singer had proceeded to get themselves busted in a nearby alley by undercover narcs for a certain powdery substance.
Later, went up to prepare for the gig when......uhh....where the hell is he......."oh, he and so and so got busted......"
I spent the rest of the night playing a 5 string bass with the owner of the establishment taking on guitar duties and singing.......Needless to say, I stopped playing with that band.
But, I digress
Hmm... I think it’s a great melodic solo. Meanders... I don’t know. As a teen learning to play, I spent many hours learning that solo. To this day, I’d much rather listen to this type of solo than some guy tweedly weedlin’ scales as fast as he can.
Never really knew what Yacht Rock meant. From the name alone, it sounds like nothing I’d be into. But, I admit, I like a lot of these tunes. Not familiar with the deeper catalog of most of these artists but, as someone said, these songs are AM Gold.
Because I didn't care for the song, of course!
I dunno if these bands qualify as Yacht Rock but they certainly give the Yacht Rock vibe
