You can only have 3 pedals on your board. Which ones do you choose and why?

Three iStomps. Yes, I cheated.

If that isn't allowed, then a Flashback delay, maybe an overdrive, and a looper perhaps.

Tuner - because tuning
Delay - applies to any genre/mood
OD/fuzz - because I like it

Mr. Sage Double Pickle Drive -> Catalinbread Echorec

The third pedal would be the reverb/tremolo switch for my amp.

I could get 95% of my gigging tones (rock & blues) with the following:

Fuzz (red mini FF) - Tube Screamer (TS9) - Delay (Boss DD7)

....because they are all relatively inexpensive and I like to play with a clean Fender amp boosted just a hair with a TS9 for my base tone. Stacking the Fuzz for solos with a bit of guitar volume rolled off howls perfectly, and the DD7 can add a bunch of different flavors for some variety (including short loops and a very decent analogue simulation).

Klon, TS9 tubescreamer, tuner

I play many, many, many gigs with no pedals however - just working the volume knob and pickups.

This is a toughy, but i could survive with this

Matthews Effects: The Scoundrel because Klone + TS9 in one pedal, allowing for stacked drives.
Ernie Ball VP JR
Strymon Timeline

(I'd use a clip on tuner)

If I only get three, I'll skip the tuner (I'll use a Stroboclip) and go with my:

Bearfoot Pale Green Compressor

BJFE Honey Bee

Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay

Caveman overdrive - base dirt with a boost for lead is perfect and can be done by a bunch of dual drive boxes (BADCAT Siamese drive/box of rock/Route 66/vs-xo) I am just digging the caveman a LOT right now.

Visual Sound Dual Tap Delay - because stacked, beautifully clear and easy to use delay is AWESOME. I know the timeline and a bunch of others get tons of hype, but simple straight forward and easy to use is the best.

Digital Reverb - boss RV5 is great and gets most jobs done.

With a decent amp, there isn't much you can't cover with all that!
