I wonder if they burned or bandsawed them all.
Made for a long and hot thread on TGP.

Hmmm, I've never seen a Gibson Hendrix "Strat" in real life. Yeah, I wonder what happened?

Yeah, it was kind of fun for a few days. Hopefully an employee stashed a prototype or two. Could be quite a collector's piece down the road.

Wow, I just read the title of the thread and thought to myself that it could only be about the Gibson Hendrix Strat-thing. Still too fresh in my mind. What a disgrace...

Headstock had an open book design on the long side.
Might have been something if they laid off the Hendrix thing.

There were also imported "Strats" with reverse heads and a 5 watt little amp with Jimi's face on it.
The Hendrix Family worked with Gibson to promote (exploit?) Gibson's name.

Grab a Beer and Chips, sit back, and enjoy:

It is part of Gibson's evolutionary steps.

I was telling someone about these a few days ago and they were just looking at me like I'm crazy...I started to wonder if I'd dreamed it all up

    That was an interesting read.
I'd never associated Jimi with copies of the HM Strat with ugly headstocks.

Maybe they're all stashed in a warehouse somewhere waiting to be released as an "all new" model someday. Thing is, might have been a reasonably successful release if they hadn't outraged everyone by calling it a Hendrix model. I still can't believe that ever made it past the staff meeting. Incredible anyone at Gibson ever thought that'd fly with consumers.

I thought it was stupid at the time but to be fair they were aiming it at the entry-level market.

The Nashville Flood a few years ago took care of any and all bodies and necks. They were all destroyed according to my sources.
