I’d rather buy used than new, but lately I’ve been listening to a lot of Ghost and the Hagstrom Fantomen looks fun.

Earlier this year I bought a brand new Yamaha Revstar 502 for about half that budget and it's fantastic. Also, I just bought an almost-new Ibanez AZ for well under that budget. If it wasn't tagged as used, I wouldn't have known the difference.

That said, for other brand new models, I'd be looking at the Ibanez RG550s which are a great price for MIJ quality. The Charvel DK24 and the Reverend Double Agent W get a good look from me since I liked them both a lot. Ibanez AS series are great for semihollow goodness as well.

Why not go used and get way more for your $? I know You said no partscasters.

My #1 is a strat partscaster that has a Fender Deluxe Fiesta red body, nice Wormath SS fret neck, Suhr HSS Pups with silent system that I paid around $700 for.
i also have a bunch of MJT's that are killer guitars! they have to be put together by a Pro.

Wouldn't buy most guitars new, would rather some other kind soul take the depreciation hit, and benefit from his boredom and desire for shiny new sparklies.

Though if I had a gun to my head and having loved ones threatened simultaneously, I'd go with a PRS S2 Standard 22 Satin-- MURIKA, 22 frets, the not-bad 85/15S pups, comfy, chunky, SMOOOOOOOVE neck. Although I'd get it when GC issued a 15% off coupon that works on PRSi (which sometimes they don't-- gotta read that fine print).

Wouldn't even bother with teh SE Paul's-- too much extraneous bling and not enough of the features I'd want to justify dropping S2 shekels.

Maybe one of the new Chapman V2s, if I could get over those damned reverse headstocks. I wonder what other companies use the same factory, that place puts out exceptional work...

I picked up a 2019 Les Paul Junior Tribute DC for about $900 CDN, so for $999 USD, you can grab one and have scratch leftover for some pints at the gig...

    Nothing.

I'd save more $. There really isn't a guitar I want at that price.

Because the the idea is to figure out the "best" off-the-shelf guitars in that range, new. It also sets a baseline of prices for gear "everyone" has access to at any day.

I have the Chapman ML3 Pro Semi-Hollow modern and I want the ML3 Semi-Hollow traditional.

Both are 999$. And I want that guitar so it’s not “if I only had 1k”. Outside of that what I want is generally 1600$ territory.

For guitars at that price there are several. Amps on the other hand....

I don’t like my guitars used, for one.

There are also several guitars that I really want and that’s the price tag.

I don’t need to go higher than that to get those guitars. It’s what they cost.

Edit: And I just can’t do used guitars. Amps used I can deal with. For sentimental reasons, if no other, I only want new guitars.

Maybe there are a few vintage guitars I’d be interested in but as an actual working guitar, no. I want a new guitar and if it’s a vintage remake I still expect modern quality of life upgrades and that doesn’t make them very vintage.

That Diamond monarch sounds like a nice guitar. If I didn’t own one already I probably would get the new Washburn Idol Standard 26. It is essentially a LP or Sg like guitar with an ebony board and Seymour Duncan pickups along with nice grover mini tuners. I would save the other 200 dollars for a small 5 watt tube amp!

Probably some Ibanez/Epiphone jazz box, Reverend or Yamaha Revstar.
