I'd probably go a bit over budget, but I'd definitely start here:

    Used Yamaha Pacifica 611 ($450-500)
Used Fender Hot Rod Deville ($450-500)
    Used Maxon OD-9 ($95)
    Used MXR Carbon Copy ($100)

That actually happened to me in 1977, almost. My apartment was broken into and I lost all my guitars and saxes, fortunately my twin reverb was too heavy to carry down 3 flights so I had an amp. I had about $600 in the bank.

I had a gig that night so I borrowed a friends Strat and rented a tenor sax, then quickly transposed alto parts to tenor.

The next day I ran to Rondo music (the Agile store) and picked up a Strat for $575. Then I ran to a store specializing in band instruments and bought a Yamaha YTS-61 and Otto link mouthpiece on a credit card. A few months later I still hadn't received the bill for the sax so I called the bank, they said I was paid up, then I called the store, they said I was paid up. I canceled the credit card.

I still have that sax, I love it, I never liked that Strat and sold it within a year.

FWIW the theft was a 68 Les Paul, 64 SG, 62 Strat, a late 40s Martin alto sax, and a mid 50s Martin tenor sax and a seller flute. They also took a Nikon SLR and a pair of binoculars.

For this exercise I decided on Reverb/new. "Reverb" as a one stop shop. That's pretty real for me as I once had to replace gear the day of a gig. I had about ten minutes to do that. "New" just because it's more likely the links I post will longer remain unbroken...

I currently have one of these. I bought it used for about $90 originally for my son. His number one turns out to be my Nord piano. My number one turns out to be his Squier Tele. Fair enough. I do have expensive guitars. I wanna play the Squier!

I considered a Vox AC15/30, but been there done that. I love trying new amps, and Segeborn gets a lovely sound outta this one. I played a smaller Bassbreaker in a store when I bought my AC10. I was impressed. It's now on clearance!

"that with its two NOS germanium transistors will deliver any fuzz tone you may imagine!"

*cables not included? I'll give the bass player my two cents, "Hey, you look like you need a drink!" I'll steal two of his while he's over at the bar.

I’d get a used Takamine classical, a small P.A. System., and a hat. I’d then go out and earn more money.

A ticket to Vegas where I would hope to turn that $1000 into $10,000 at which point I can start over.

I would try to use the Musicians Friend coupon only to find it’s good for nothing.

In reality I'd piece it out and get high end gear. I wouldn't cram it into $1000. In the spirit of this thread, and with all new gear:

    Squire Standard Telecaster Blonde/Rosewood- $249.99
    Fender Champion 40 - $179.99
    Pedaltrain Nano+ - $69.99
    Boss TU-3W - $149.99
    Electro-Harmonix Green Russian - $80.60
    Electro-Harmonix Canyon Delay - $139.00
    Truetone 1 SPOT Multi Plug 5 - $9.95
    2x Fender 10' Custom Shop Guitar Cable - $59.98
    MXR 6" Pedalboard Patch 3-pack - $19.99

    Grand Total = $959.48

I know that it's weird to spend money on the tuner and cables. I just really like using those two pieces of gear. The Canyon comes with a power adapter. I'd use it into the Truetone to power all of the pedals.

I think this setup wouldn't be bad at all!
