How does it go over?
We rock it up a bit, but it's still tiresome
Wow, did you guys play it along the same lines?
The songs I hate always somehow migrate to the end of the seldom-played third set, or even to “the bench”—the set list graveyard
You poor poor soul. You must have been being punished for something awful you did in the past. Consider it your penance and be forgiven.
tell him that!
Whose idea was it to cover that?
I play Mustang Sally and like it and it sounds great. Honestly, most bands who play it suck. They rock it. They don't care about the groove. They play it lazy. When it's sexy and exasperated you can hear why the crowd loves it.
Into The Mystic - Van Morrison. Good song, just reminds me too much of my ex
Otherwise probably Royals - Lorde, if I hear that song one more time I'm going to punch someone.
You can have it.
Bingo. It's a mammoth tune played a lot in these parts. Sort of the "Paradise by the Dashboard Lights" of Billy Joel. He's a turbo legend & hall of famer, just not on my playlist.
I used to hate playing Johnny B. Goode, it seems like everyone had a really hack job version of it back in the day. Well, I had a student wanna learn it a couple years ago, so I referred back to the original and we learned it note for note with deserved attention to phrasing and groove, and I was (I believe) more blown away than my student. It was very humbling, a total masterpiece that I had butchered and made fun of for years.
Mustang Sally is the same, awesome parts and stellar performance!, But holy crap, I've been involved in some lame versions of that poor song.
You have got to be kidding. I couldn't make it to two minutes trying to listen to it. I can't imagine why any bar band would even want to cover it. Where are you where this song is such a hit?
Yeah, now you have to finish it...
Great American Northeast. Plenty of women named Alexa here too. Seemed like a good idea at the time...
Other than his biggest hits, I'm not that familiar with Billy Joel's catalog. Unless you're doing a Billy Joel tribute show, I can't imagine covering any of his tunes.
Mustang Sally. I put an end to it as soon as I could.
I need to get out more often because I haven't heard that song since Chris Isaac was playing it. Love the song but totally get how you can get sick of playing it.
True but when your bass player INSISTS on playing your originals from 30 freakin' years ago over and over and over and....
I almost quit a band years ago over Achy-Breaky Heart.
Only if you stopped writing new material 30 years ago...
