I ended up hating this song...and I wrote 2/3 of it:
Don't have to play it anymore thankfully.
It's that pesky Chinese glue.
"Old Time Rock N' Roll" and "Sweet Home Alabama"...totally played out, but if you want to get paid you have to play them because people still want to hear these songs.
Also, anything by Bruce Springsteen and John Mayer...just not a fan.
Well I guess we play a few songs a lot of TGPers hate but the one I really don't like is Take it Easy. Crowd seems to like it...TGP be darned.
I am glad we don't do Free Fallin' - and I love Tom Petty!
Ugh .. Old Time Rock 'n' Roll
I'm going to audition for a band sunday that plays too many songs I hate.
Luckily they were mostly picks of the former guitar player so I'm hoping that IF i get in the band we can lose a lot of them
Gimmie 3 steps
Play that funky music
pride and joy
born to be wild
Just to name a few
Was a song I wrote the music for in one band and then it moved with me when that disbanded and reformed with a few different members. The new singer guy liked it, wrote new lyrics but couldn't sing it as well as the previous guy, lyrics weren't as good and it just became a bit of a chore to play.
By that stage I'd also wanted to move on from that style and stop playing it but was out voted
Band is still going after I left 6 years ago and from what I read the set is still 80% my music which for me is kinda nice as I get performance royalty payments for doing nothing
For covers, we sometimes played police truck by dead Kennedys, that was a ****er of a song to play. East bay ray had a style and sound I had a hard time with
Seriously .. Just add some flava to it until you dont mind it so much .. Maybe use a different guitar .. I hated playing "Tush" and .. Grrr @ "Sunday Bloody Sunday" ..
Got a chuckle out of your response.
I live in the DC area and my car stereo is jacked up. The only music I can listen to is the classic rock station and they loop The Who continuously. It’s not good music to hear constantly and I am sick to death of them.
Just personal taste, I’ve never been a fan. Queen is another band I don’t like to listen to.
Doesn’t matter if I like it or not. Your job in a cover band is to get the audience engaged. I’ve played Sweet Home Alabama and Wonderful Tonight so many times...but once they hear those first notes and the dance floor gets full then all is forgiven.
A crowd getting into a song is all it takes for me to enjoy playing it.
The Who and The Rolling Stones, wouldn't touch any of their stuff
A great confident singer can make most of these "hated" songs tolerable and even enjoyable. And I'm a guitar player.
it's.. just the way it's gonna be, little darlin'
Tush is cool
"Used to love her" by GnR in my blues/rock cover band.
"Sad Man's Tongue" by Volbeat in my 90's rock cover band.
I recently tried to spice up the ponderously dull “Hit The Road Jack” with some substitutions in a brave attempt to relieve the morale-sapping monotony only to derail the sax player’s “inspired” soloing excursion at its half hour point.
You need a new crowd
The new crowd will still want to hear Brown Eyed Girl.
I played in a band at school. We only did indie and rock covers, and I got to pick a lot of the songs. But when someone suggested Unbelievable by EMF I had a full-on strop and voted with my feet. Such an aggravating and limp song. But the naivety of youth also: trying to have artistic integrity when playing covers...
