That description really has me leaning that way..

I think my ideal tube would be the warmth and response of an RCA but I just dont want it to break up as early. I'm thinking those ken rad might just the bill!

Ken-Rad and RCA are pretty far apart in character. I’d recommend old (vintage US original) black-glass Tung-Sol 6V6GT as a great compromise: they’re warmer than Ken-Rad, a bit more bright and more clear than RCA, and break up later than both.

I have a black metal 6v6 that I really like. It runs a little hotter temp wise than glass, but it breaks up nicely and also has clarity too.

I’ll check out my 6v6s later tonight, I have 2 amps that use them, and have a few different brands, all vintage.

I'm hoping someone knows the design and can give a general idea https://ibb.co/jv5Hdsv

It's what appears to be a grey plate clear glass 6v6.

That doesn't look like any 6V6GT or -GTA I'm familiar with. Sure someone didn't slip a 6CA7 in there?

I've had great luck twice with NOS Ken Rad 6v6gt. "Luck" because you really never know which tubes will work best til you start trying different sets. This last instance is a '68 SFDR. Came to me with really nice tubes, remembering NOS GEs. The Ken Rads brought something extra. What Timberwolf describes as "raw". That could be it. They have a very alive sound in that amp.

Yep I'm 98% sure it's an 6v6 because of the kind of amp (hooks projector 385 amps) that use 6v6. Some use el84 but not that model. I was wondering if its modern.

I like RCA 6V6GTA's. I use them in my mid-heavy small Fenders like the 5E3 and 6g2. They seem a little brighter and cleaner.

For new production, I also like the TS. But, in an amp with higher plate voltage, they don't last as long as others.

Hey these are my 6v6 that I thought were mullards.. from a bell and howell projector amp. They have the horse shoe on top.. black plate, brand Bell and Howell written on it

Sorry for the crappy pic, the amp is in a different state.

I like JJ in my DR. Reliable, available, good price, and a robust sound.
