Suhr will always be a Small Company Luthier in my mind!
From our very own @B. Howard
He's not responsible for the tacky sticker but is responsible for the rest of the kick ass 8-string Superstrat. He builds what others won't, and just knocks it out of the park.
Love those every time I see them in the Luthiers thread. One of these days I'll pull the trigger.
I bought this one on a whim. I don't think it's ever been offered in an all Black Limba configuration before. It was a "luthier spec', so to speak.
I have never commissioned a custom instrument. I always seem to stumble upon existing pieces. This guitar is no exception. Maybe not my "favorite" per se, but definitely an educated guess that turned out better than anticipated.
My second Nik Huber. It won't be the last.
Lots of great guitars but my pair of Neal Moser custom builds are probably may favorite

This Chapin is the best Strat type I have ever played

What are the specs on that Chapin?
"G" style, the Yarons...
"F" style, the D'Pergos...
and in between...
What a friggin' golden age we're living in! If I had to choose, it'd come down to these two:
This is a reanimation of the original config which I have been tweaking since new. Myrtle over ash, medium C figured maple neck, rosewood board, Fender scale, 1 11/16 @ nut, 12 degree radius, Arlo pickups. This guitar is perfect in every way and Bill is very under rated. I have one of his hawks and am thinking about a T-Bird.
I've been playing for over 4 decades - played thousands of guitars & these 2 are at the top of the heap for "boutique" guitars.
Echopark La Carne Custom Korina
Williams Korina V58
Both feel, sound and play like complete extensions of my nervous system.
Dude! We need details. What are these?
The top one is a Thorn Artisan SFC, by the indefatigable Ron Thorn. It has a korina body and neck, maple top, and Braz rosewood board, with Fralin PAFs and a mojoaxe wraparound bridge/tailpiece.
The Firebird-like one is a Kauer Banshee Deluxe. Spanish Cedar body and neck, with a buckeye burl top. The pickups are Wolfetone Kauerbuckers. This guitar is made out of about 50% upsiedaisium, it is super lightweight.
That Thorn is incredible! I have been wanting an Artisian like this for some time.
I know. I know. But it is an incredible guitar!
I love this one. Retro style and cool.
Hard to pick just one. I am very happy with all my guitars.
Thorn Deluxe 90 with Throbaks, 1 piece top is great in every way...
the design, the execution, the sound and the playability.
My other Thorns speak in their own way as well.
My Suhr S was my first custom ordered guitar and has the best straight ahead strat tone and playability.
Thorn before Thobaks and black pup rings:
