I know that's a wierd thing to say but I see all these Thorn guitars and can't help but feel sad that he's now with Fender and not building on his own.

Ron is a great Luthier/engineer/craftsman and even greater person.
I understand why he went to Fender and wish him continued success, but I still miss Thorn guitars.

I miss the convenience of access when he was building on his own, but I think Fender has opened doors to creativity that wouldn’t have been available to him otherwise.

I find what he is doing at Fender quite exciting.

Agreed. I miss that as well, however I think what @Ron Thorn is doing now is "for the greater good". He's pushing the instrument forward on a global stage, something a small builder would never be able to do. Look at the innovation he's brought to Fender in less than two years. New models, new hardware, visual artist collaborations... A "Masterbuilt" guitar really means something when it's more than just a stock Custom Shop strat with your preferred neck shape. That's what I think he's helping to shape the Masterbuilder team into. My two cents.

This is an entirely new brand to me and it really made me go 'whoa'! I love it!

I haven't tried a lot, but Suhr Modern is quite an outstanding instrument. Feels like everything, that could ever worry a player in a guitar, has already been addressed - by someone who really knows his business.
    Oh, and it sounds awesome.

One of first three Bluesmaster Semis. In the builder's hands.

not to derail, but can you categorize how the semi compares to the regular BM? Gorgeous.

Semi vs BM - Lighter weight, more air around notes, very articulate with less midrange thump, miss two tone/volume controls (some have since been ordered with with full LP controls).

If I had to play a marathon show, like the 5 hour gig on a barge on sandbar in N St Pete that we used to do, this is my pick for most comfortable instrument that plays itself. I'm a big, strong person (6'2" 240lbs lift weights 3+ times a week), so heavy and large instruments don't bother me. But the Semi is so comfortable...and very pretty.

Feel the same way, every time I see it.

Great time to be a guitar player!

I've owned more guitars than I've ever deserved, but hands-down the best I've played/owned is one of Mike Shishkov's incredible builds. Every part of the ordering and build process was fun, and I've got a guitar (well, TWO) that I never want to put down!

Thorn g/t. There is a reason that Ron has the position he does at Fender.

This one by Roman Rist. He has built a couple guitars for me and this one really fits me perfectly. Thin maple top on a 1.4 inch flame Korina body. Don Mare wound me the P90's.

I got this in 2010, swapped 2 Historic LP's, a '94 and a '95 for it. The tuning gizmo was installed for the original owner, Rich Robinson. It works amazingly well. I've owned 5 other LJ's since. The last two fell victim to our major home downsizing. All were great and I honestly would have been happy with any of them but this one is by far my fav. It's got PAF's installed in this pic but I've since put the Holmes back in.

If I had a California Special, there would be a very good chance it'd be top of my list.
