I'm curious what everyone would choose, say, to get a great Les Paul sound, but without the Gibson logo.

Or just your most desired set neck humbucking guitar not made by Gibson.

    Thoughts?

I love the ESP Eclispe or LTD EC 1000. Great Les Paul type of guitar. Although they dont sound much like Gibsons (for me, thats a good thing), they are suited for just about anything.

The Ibanez Artists (2619s) from the mid-70s through early-80s are great guitars.

This is my favorite HB guitar. Not a Gibby fan; this gets close enough for me:

My favorite non Gibson HB equipped guitar is a PRS McCarty.

That said, I owned a Hamer Special FM a long time ago and that was a really nice guitar as well (and more fitting for a player who's used to 24.5'' scales).

At the moment I'd have to say my McNaught. Although my McInturff Taurus and PRS SC are right up there as well.

Not a Les Paul substitute, by any means, but my Electric Archie by Seattle luthier Steve Andersen is quite the guitar:

14" body, solid spruce top, solid flame maple back and sides; three-piece maple neck, Duncan Antiquities.

It's a LOT of fun to gig!
