I've always wondered the same thing. Is the KOT that much different than 2 Prince of Tone pedals? Is it the customization factor? No shade to all who love their KOT, I wish I was a more patient person and could wait that long.

To all who answered the SSBS Mini - would you also recommend this pedal to push a high gain distortion pedal? Or would it just sound terribly muddy (with drive low).

Like I said I dont NEED a KoT. I'm patient though and already have 27 months behind on the wait list. And I prefer dual drive pedals. But mainly, buying a KoT for $265 allows you to NET $200 in resale if you dont love it. The PoT does not.

I haven't noticed a difference between my Hotcakes, but they are all newer 3-knob versions. I would love to snag a 2-knob sometime since there are claims out there that they sound better. I keep two on a small 4-pedal board, one in Bluesberry because that mode is slightly less fuzzy sounding on the medium gain settings. I had the Double Hotcake for awhile too, but I didn't like how it sounded when both sides were engaged, and preferred having two standalone pedals cascading. The Double Hotcake with both sides cuts bottom end and adds this sort of nasal midrange that did nothing for me. It would probably have it's place for lead lines or something, but didn't fit my needs at the time.

lehle sunday driver, for its ultra-low noise floor and impedance conversion, which is necessary for me to get the right tone out of single coils. it also seems to cut down on hum.

if i couldn't have that, i'd go for a spaceman atlas III, for its nice sweetening and also very low noise floor when battery powered

I had the same gain pedal on my board for 25 years - an Award-Session JD-10. It was always on. For some reason I stopped loving it. I don't know if it changed or I changed.

I recently replaced it with a Barber Gain Changer / BB Preamp combo. I've had a bunch of the super exotic, super expensive stuff and I like this combination better.

The Xotic Oz Noy AC/RC pedal.... both pedals built into one unit. Both sides sound great.

First ever attempt at DIY pedal building was a clone of a Zvex Super Hard On boost. I expected the thing to be some crappy practice circuit that makes little difference, god was I wrong. I have kept it on my board ever since, it makes cleans sparkle so nicely and pushes the amp right into the sweet spot. I'd be absolutely lost without it, especially with single coils.

I must need more coffee, because I read this a the strangest boxing match ever, before realizing that it was Vintage Spec that you meant.
