Orange is the new Orange, for me. I guess the top three of my five are:
Paired with cabs is how they sound best (but really any of the heads sound great thru any of the cabs)-
1- Rocker 15 Terror thru custom Marshall 412 cab (Celestion Vintage 30s)
2- Brent Hinds Terror thru the two EVH 5150 III 112ST cabs (Celestion 70th Anniversary G12H30s)
3- Jim Root Terror thru the two EVH 5150 III 112ST cabs (Celestion 70th Anniversary G12H30s)
4- Dark Terror - thru the modified Blackstar HT112 (Celestion Vintage 30)
5- Micro Dark Terror - I know, I know...but what can I say I like it
I don't own nor need anything in the huge & heavy 50 or 100 watters, just lunchbox sized gear for me.
I have a buddy who up until recently had a studio in Hoboken. He owns two of the three best sounding amps I’ve ever played through: an early 60s AC30 and a particularly smooth and rich sounding 1971 JMP Superlead.
The other amp that comes to mind was Tim Kerr’s grey panel Vox AC30 that used to live in an older Austin studio called the Sweatbox. Rumor was it used to belong to Guy Picciotto of Fugazi / Rights of Spring.
Out of the amps I’ve personally owned I feel like my Metropoulos 12000, Friedman Dirty Shirley and Supro Black Magick are about as good as I can get.
