don't have a 3rd yet
Lennon and McCartney
Elton John and Bernie Taupin
Walter Becker and Donald Fagen
Lennon and McCartney wrote very few songs together, especially after 1964/65. I wouldn't count them as a duo unless you mean their very early stuff.
Jagger/Richards is one (even though I'm not much of a fan)
Lifeson/Lee/Peart (though that's three)
Who did Garcia write with? A lyricist whose name I can't remember.
That would be Robert Hunter.
jim james and himself
Tom Petty/Mike Campbell
Steven Tyler/Joe Perry
Don Henley/Glenn Frey
Goffin and King have penned a few...
The guys from Squeeze are good, but their catalog is too thin.
A better way to phrase the original question would have been:
"Not counting Lennon/McCartney, who are your top two songwriting duos?"
My answer would be:
I don't know.
Some of my favorite solo writers:
The Beatles - pick any combo you'd like.
