I was just reading yet another post about Eric Gales demoing some boutique amp and the thought occurred to me...who does whore themselves out to builders of gear the most? Maybe you feel thats the person with the most gear in their collection or who just keep flip flopping between brands for money lol...

    Pics will enhance your choices!

Joe Bonamassa for mass produced gear whoring, yet I highly doubt he uses any of the pedals with his name on it.

Joe Walsh used to make a point to get guitars into players' hands. The Gretsch>Fender amp combo he gave to Townshend. Jimmy Page's Les Paul. He is way up there.

I saw Bob Dylan and Charlie Sexton played a different guitar nearly every song.

Keith Richards and Neil Young have massive collections. Tom Keifer did, or does too.

Once I become a celebrity we can put this one to rest though. I love gear.

Lynch has been with ESP for almost 30 years. He's been with Randall for a long time now also.

EVH and Neal Schon jumped around a lot, but Ed has been with Fender for the past decade, first through Charvel and now with his own brand.

Zakk was with Gibson and Marshall for 20+ years and is just now starting his own brand.

First he was with Ibanez, then with Washburn, then Silvertone, then back with Washburn, now back with Ibanez. He also had a signature amp with Randall (which sounded killer, by the way) but that was short-lived.

Greg Howe and Ty Tabor have hopped around a bit on guitar endorsements - can't say I blame them for taking whatever situation is brought their way.

and not a fan of the "whore" part, but that's just me.

Seems like back in the day Kramer had a ton of endorsers. Some of those group photo ads they had looked like the making of the We Are the World video. Doesn't George Lynch use SLOs now?

I am somewhat confused... The word 'whore' in this thread, is it a good thing or bad thing?
    :hide2

I am not mad at any artist making a buck on his / her name, I would hope they would only endorse gear they actually like and maybe even use. But I will also say I have never bought a name endorsed item.
    I own a Les Paul, I didn't buy a Slash model.
    I own a Strat, I didn't buy a Clapton model.
    Etc...
So perhaps I am not the target market.

    It depends upon the intent.

A whore does it for the money.

A slut does it 'cuz she likes it!

I have been reading guitar magazines (American and British) over the years since the late 80s. I get a kick out of seeing the same faces shilling gear in those ads month after month, year after year and for the life of me never heard any of their stuff or knew who they were. Some of the endorsement deals make sense (as a consumer and as a fan that knew the strong connection of brand-to-guitarist) but some are just ludicrous.

But those players very likely wouldn't do those deals unless they really needed the cashflow or needed the additional exposure. Easy for me to sit back and have a laugh but in another dimension where I would be in their position I probably would do the same thing they're doing.

    Jeff Beck?

Seems he has been doing the whole gear whore thing as long or longer than most.
