Is the Zendrive 2 better than the Zendrive? Is it because it has a tube? Does the tube make any difference?

    Thanks

I would say that would be very subjective, some like the zen, others prefer the Zen2. I have a Zen and am very happy with it. That said, I am happily awaiting to try a ZEN 2. I've heard some say the regular Zen has more gain, but the Zen 2 is more dynamic. Maybe some others could chime in...

They are both cut from the same cloth, but they are their own beast. The Zendrive is smoother and D*mble like. The Z2 is more raw and fatter. Its also more versatile as changing the tube type and brands yields differences. Both can sit on a board easily.I feel the Zendrive is the more dynamic of the of the 2. You cant go wrong either way.

There is a new Zendrive on the horizon, saw it at the amp show. It REALLY sounded great... made in a wood box!

Wait till you hear the double boost pedal he has just finished.
He had that at the show too. It will be another killer.
By the way Mike, you are a class act too. Love your work, and
    service.

I think it's a subjective thing. I had both but found the original Zen more to my liking. Found it to be better balanced... The Zen 2 had more gain and was thicker sounding in the mids, more rounded but i preferred the upper mid chirp that the Zen has. I guess it depends on application, but for me...i already get most of my gain from the amp and just juice up the front end with a pedal and then Zen did a better job my tastes. ;)
