I emailed Alf to ask about wait time and price a few weeks ago. The zendrive is $150 + $9 shipping in the US (direct from Alf). Wait time was about 8 weeks back then. You send the money (bank or postal MO, or paypal) when the pedal is about ready to ship.

Probably by mere seconds. Ahhhhhhhhhh, isn't the internet an amazing thing.
You in NM, me in Washington with snow on the ground.
Hey, at least we had the same, accurate info to pass on. Now that is unusual.

Alf must have changed this recently.
I went on the list in Jan, and paid up front.

    The email I got said:

    * Wait time depends on current amount of orders - ask me in order to get an accurate estimate.

    * Once I receive payment, I add you to the list. After the pedal is built and shipped you have a couple of
    days to check it out.

    * If it doesn't work for you, simply send it back - no pressure.

    * I'll refund the price of the pedal (shipping charges are not refunded).

So I guess it's one or the other. :jo

In my initial contact with Alf about the Zendrive I was told 8 weeks and payment in advance was required. I paid and waited 3 months before I received the pedal which was just last week by the way. I know this question has come up a few times with mixed answers. I do find it a bit odd that Alf required advance payment from me if he doesn't ask everyone to do the same and is still quoting 8 week delivery. Oh well, nice pedal though.

I just got my Zendrive 3 weeks ago. I ordered it around Thanksgiving. At that time, the policy was order/pay up front/wait.

When I got the message from Jeff D at Tone Frenzy (one of Alf's distributors) telling me it was shipping, he included a note that they have now changed to a more customer friendly policy of order/wait/notify/pay/ship.

So the answer is that they have very recently Change the Payment policy, that's why there is a disparity between customers in the past few months.

I guess business is so good, that he doesn't need the upfront capital to buy parts anymore. Additionally, Stratofied must have been in the same "group" I was in, or he used a different distributor. Jeff from Tone Frenzy told me that there was a huge ramp up in the fall, right after Alf had some major hurricane-related personal issues that slowed production. Apparently the list is chopped away in batches, with Alf building a large number of pedal, then shipping them to his distro-guys who, in turn, will ship to the waiting list in chronological order. If you are not quite high enough to get in on that shipment, your wait could be a week or two longer than someone who signed up with a week or two of you.

Either way, the pedal DOES live up to it's hype. The communication and customer service is top notch.

I use the pedal with a Super Reverb and it is nearly perfect. SMOOOOOOOTH Overdrive. In Fact, I also run a Keeley TS9 in tandem on some tunes just to give a bit more "grind", but only because I am so used to it. I am slowly weaning myself from the TS9. The depth, character, and sustain from the ZD without being a grit machine (did I say it was SMOOOOOOOTH?) is so nice, it's actually slow to grow on you. Each time I click it on, however, it gets better and better. I wouldn't necessarily call it a "*mble in a box", but it's the closest thing this side of an actual amp clone that I have heard.

I'm still waiting and I ordered mine and paid for it on 2nd of Dec.

I'm still waiting. Have been very patient it feels like, and have sent a total of three emails simply asking for a new ETA. I paid up front. I know Alfs rep, so I am not worried about anything sleazy or anything like that, but I am starting to really feel like I have waited long enough. Last email was a few weeks ago, and at that time I was assured mine was in the "current batch" which I thought meant I should have gotten an email already telling me it was on its way.

I think maybe he got swamped now after christmas.

I ordered and paid up-front on October 5th 2005. Received the pedal on January 7th 2006. In my case the email when I ordered stated a 4 week wait.

Ordered mine from Musictoyz about mid November, together with a Tone Press.

Web site stated '6 weeks backordered', that went 12 a coiuple of weeks later.

Still waiting on the Zen but don't remember if payment was made for both pedals at that time or just for the TP.

I'm going to edit my post (the original is above) after checking I believe I ordered my Zendrive on 2nd of december, not before thanksgiving.

Hopefully not much longer, Alf had responed on the 30th of Jan that it was in the "current batch" and should be going out soon.

That was only a few weeks ago, but he's going to check.

    Luke,
I placed an order with Alf one day after you and received mine last week. I never emailed or tried to contact Alf about the status during the wait so there was no pressure from me to hurry him along. Maybe you should send an email and make sure you are in queue.
