    Looking for some comparisons of the Zvex Distortron and the Xotic BB Preamp. Thanks!

    I've played both but don't have comparison info for you.
    I did like the BB Pre better though.

    I had both, in my opinion they are very different.

    The Distortron has more gain and more bass, the BB is a lower gain, and works very good as a clean boost. I've used both fore a long time, the Distortron was my low to medium gain, and the BB was my clean boost, always on.

    Thanks! But you can lower the bass on the Distortron with it's 3 way switch. I was hoping for a comparison of their distorted sounds...

    BB gets compared to tubescreamers a lot. AFAIK, it is not one, but kind of has that feel to the distortion. The Distortron is a Marshall in a Box, specifically designed to emulate a jtm45. Even at lower gain settings it has a more aggressive upper mid emphasis, as well as the big bass bump, which is adjustable with the Subs switch.
    They are very different, but can be complimentary.

    If I used one word to describe each of them it would be-
    Distortron=crunchy
    BB=smooth
